The Sky is Falling

“The Sky is Falling!”
Henny Penny calls. An acorn has just landed on her head and, panicking, she hurries of to warn all her friends of the impending doom. The beginning of this well known children’s story has passed into the English language as indicating a hysterical or mistaken belief that disaster is imminent. There are some that believe the news of recent years about global warming and climate change and how it will effect peoples around the world is just one such mistaken belief. They deny it is happening and even if it is, we had nothing to do with it and couldn’t change things even if we wanted to.

Christian Green Gathering Tavistock

Green Christian Gathering – Tavistock 20th March
Devon Churches Green Action is holding a day conference at Tavistock Methodist Church, (Chapel St PL19 8DX) on Saturday 20th March. The keynote speakers are Tim Gorringe of Exeter University, and Clare Bryden, of the “Shrinking the Footprint” campaign. Local groups will share stories of change and hope. Programmes will be sent to those booking in advance (see overleaf). The provisional running order includes Clare speaking at 11am, Tim at 1pm, a bring and share lunch at 12.30, and a choice of workshops (eg farming, energy, food, theology) at 2.30. Anyone with an interest in how community groups, including faith groups, can support transition to a more sustainable way of living will find the day of interest. Entry is free – donations towards costs welcome.

Transition Tavistock Open Space Event

On Sunday 15 November 2009, Westden attended the Transition Tavistock Open Space Event in the Parish Rooms, Tavistock. The afternoon was hosted by the Transition Tavistock steering group using the Open Space Format.
