GrowTavi will visit the BFG at Buckland Abbey

The next GrowTavi will be on Tuesday 5th April 2011 at 2pm. The venue will be Buckland Abbey. Guestspeakers will include organic specialist Tom Petherick. There will also be a chance to tour the new work that the Buckland Food Group are doing with the National Trust….veg, pigs, fruit….(cider, we hope!!)

The Earth Charter Initiative

“The Earth Charter Initiative” is an extraordinarily diverse, global network of people, organizations, and institutions that participate in promoting and implementing the values and principles of the Earth Charter. The Initiative is a broad-based, voluntary, civil society effort. Participants include leading international institutions, national governments and their agencies, university associations, non-government organizations and community-based groups, city governments, faith groups, schools and businesses – as well as thousands of individuals.

Transition Tavistock Open Space Event

On Sunday 15 November 2009, Westden attended the Transition Tavistock Open Space Event in the Parish Rooms, Tavistock. The afternoon was hosted by the Transition Tavistock steering group using the Open Space Format.

Tavistock College Outdoor Task Force strike at the Molly Owen Centre

Pupils from Tavistock College joined Westden’s event to promote sustainable community outdoor volunteering on a day all about rights and responsibilities. The facelift at the Molly Owen Centre was greatly appreciated and the group had gained great satisfaction in doing work for other people.

Tamar Grow Local community allotments and composting project

Tamar Grow Local has opened two new community allotments at Calstock and St Budeaux on an exciting new model for community-based development. They are also looking to establish demand and interest for a Community Composting Scheme in the local area.

Eco-schools

Westden would like to support the schools that become part of the Westden Community School Garden Network towards joining the Eco-schools network and working towards sustainability.
