Buckland Food Growers Ltd (B.F.G.), based at the National Trust’s Buckland Abbey, near Yelverton, have been working hard to set the roots of their project since beginning work on it last spring. Now with just under a hectare of land which has been on lease from the National Trust since January, the growing and rearing of produce is underway in earnest.

The next GrowTavi will be on Tuesday 5th April 2011 at 2pm. The venue will be Buckland Abbey. Guestspeakers will include organic specialist Tom Petherick. There will also be a chance to tour the new work that the Buckland Food Group are doing with the National Trust….veg, pigs, fruit….(cider, we hope!!)

“The Sky is Falling!”
Henny Penny calls. An acorn has just landed on her head and, panicking, she hurries of to warn all her friends of the impending doom. The beginning of this well known children’s story has passed into the English language as indicating a hysterical or mistaken belief that disaster is imminent. There are some that believe the news of recent years about global warming and climate change and how it will effect peoples around the world is just one such mistaken belief. They deny it is happening and even if it is, we had nothing to do with it and couldn’t change things even if we wanted to.

Pupils from Tavistock College joined Westden’s event to promote sustainable community outdoor volunteering on a day all about rights and responsibilities. The facelift at the Molly Owen Centre was greatly appreciated and the group had gained great satisfaction in doing work for other people.

Tamar Grow Local has opened two new community allotments at Calstock and St Budeaux on an exciting new model for community-based development. They are also looking to establish demand and interest for a Community Composting Scheme in the local area.
