I am disappointed to say that I will not be at the Big Lunch this Sunday. That doesn’t mean it can’t go ahead and so if you are intending on coming, please knock on your neighbours’ doors and rallying them up. I will be looking to do one later in the summer. Let me know any weekends that suit you…

GrowTavi will visit the BFG at Buckland Abbey

The next GrowTavi will be on Tuesday 5th April 2011 at 2pm. The venue will be Buckland Abbey. Guestspeakers will include organic specialist Tom Petherick. There will also be a chance to tour the new work that the Buckland Food Group are doing with the National Trust….veg, pigs, fruit….(cider, we hope!!)

Volunteer days at Tavistock College: 25 & 26 September 2010

Thank you to all the volunteers who have offered to come along on Saturday 25th and/or Sunday 26th September to help our on our pilot project. We will be meeting at 10am on both days at the outdoor picnic area outside the canteen. We should be finished about 1pm both days. We will be doing activities like sanding, painting and weeding so please please wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on and/or getting dirty. Light refreshments will be provided including tea, coffee, squash, water, biscuits etc. We will be undercover most of the day so don’t be put off on Sat or Sun morning if it is raining. Dartmoor and Exmoor Low Carbon Festival 2010, 06 – 10 October – Exmoor, 09 – 10 October – Dartmoor, Family fun days, a food festival, an eco-fashion event, a variety of guided walks and tours plus a series offree community events are on offer at this year’s Low Carbon Festival on Exmoor and Dartmoor. The Festival follows on from the success of the inaugural Dartmoor and Exmoor Low Carbon Festival in 2009. A series of free events and guided tours across both National Parks will highlight what measures are being taken to reduce carbon emissions and how we can adapt to the ever growing pressures on our resources.

Local talk on offsetting carbon emissions

“Wondered about offsetting your carbon emissions? Why, how, and does it make sense anyway?”. Thursday 9th September. The Community Club (opp Post Office) Moretonhampstead. Talk starts 7.30pm. Come early for home-grown Refreshments. Talk and Refreshments – Free. Moreton Action Group for Sustainability (MAGS) is hosting this talk by inspirational thinker, speaker, and practical engineering-based Antony Turner. The current theory and practise of carbon offsetting is a contentious subject which Antony will put in perspective, summarize and give us his conclusions based on his own work in this area over the last 7 years.
